As the world is witnessing the worst natural disaster in history - we are very saddened to hear of all the horriffying images coming from the area.
It is a shame that the mass media do not air this - as there is still so much that has to be done, and the area is far from recovery. By them taking this away from the world it is desentize us from the realities of such disasters in our world.
But you say - this is an article
about our loving animals....and you are right. But we didn't fall to far away from our purpose of this article.
You see, even though we at Vegan Era go close to tears every time we see something about Haiti; we do come across some amazing and beautiful stories.
This one actually comes from a few years back where the United States was hit by a massive hurricane. The crew came about this article and we felt that we needed to share this with you; so that we all don't lose hope in this world.
During that period, the United States was going through some scary changes. Changes that I am sure they did not want to go through. Out of the destruction and chaos, emerged the most unthinkable atrocities and, for some, life became swell of compassion, loyalty and caring rose just as mighty as the chaos.
Although there were many wonderful human stories; this one comes from our beautiful K9 friends.
While teams of helicopters and boats were snatching people from the depths of the rising waters an animal carried a man to safety saving him from certain peril.
The black Labrador retriever pulled the man to higher ground saving his life.
Later the man credited his saved life to the beautiful K9 friend. Upon hearing this; rescue teams went back to the flood hit area to see if they needed to rescue our beautiful animal friends. Upon their arrival, they found many animals staying by their human companions side. Never leaving them. Some even stayed behind even though the bodies of their human friends were lifeless.
According to the National Pet Owners Study, 74% of dog owners consider their pet as a child or family member. The study also found that, in 2004, pet owners in the US spent more than $34 billion on their pets, easily topping the $20 billion spent on children's toys. Add to this, all the stories of dogs who have given their life to save a human and there's no mistaking the strength of the human/animal bond.
A very big, and heart felt thank you to all the amazing animal friends. We pray that you are all living in peace in harmony and safety. Thank you for always looking after us and sharing your amazing love and spirit with us daily. You are all so beautiful.
