Every so often I struggle for inspiration in writing the weekly editors note....this week was no exception. Actually, I did have an idea earlier today - then as things would happen, the world provided me with new inspiration and sparked a writing revolution....
That's what I like to call it anyway, you might call it something else.
As normal, life generally has to throw me at least 3 or 4 lessons to get the message to me.
I could make things more simple and learn on the first one - but where would the fun be in that.
For those of you who don't know - my journey, like any other has taken a while, with plenty of twists and turns. I very much used to have the mentality that if I wanted something, I would work hard to get it. No matter what stood in my way, no matter the cost - I would put all my energy into getting what I wanted.
I would waste countless amounts of energy in what this world calls 'achieving'. Be it, that really nice car, really nice house or really really nice surfboard (I will get into this later).
During my time I have learnt, that these things are all well and good; but what happens when you get all that you desire - you want more. Then you spend more time wasting energy on trying to achieve the next goal in your life.
At this point, it would be pertinent to acknowledge that fact that I am not against wanting to achieve; it is just important to know why we want these things.
We have to ask ourselves, are what we doing going to better the world, or humanity. Or is it out of greed and ego that we are looking to excel.
Back to the story, I used to get very exhausted - I am actually exhausted writing about it. I was done.
I am very lucky to be able to enjoy the beauty this world bestows upon us, I love to surf. It is great - whilst I was out the other day. I noticed that the people I was with would paddle very hard against the current to get to a certain spot.
I couldn't be bothered, and took the point of view that I would let the ocean guide me to where I should be. As time went by, my friends caught up to me - and we had a great time – catching lots of fun waves.
With all that life has decided to throw at me, I realised that it is so much easier to go with the flow. I try my best not to waste too much energy on focusing what was, what could have been - I choose to live in the moment, and enjoy what the grace of Heaven has bestowed upon me.
"Quite, don't quite. Noodle, don't noodle. You are too concerned with what was, and what will be.
There's a saying; yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery...but today is a gift - that is why it is called the present." Master Oogway.
