Hi Space....Been in Toowoomba and Dalby in Queenslands West offically offline this past week....isn't that a challenge...to be offline!! It's kind of liberating actually.....and to think that some people live without the internet! Well actually not TOTALLY offline...I do now know the Russell Street internet cafe man quite well and have clocked up one parking ticket!
Friends and relatives did however enjoy being catered for, |
|
as usual when I go to Toowoomba I do my best to show off vegan cuisine to the biggest of carnivores who gulp down their food eagerly and sometimes have a brief conversation of why I don't eat animals.
Toowoomba definitely needs some vegan underground informants, and soon! I think we should look into educating the folk in our country about plant based foods and cooking and the impact of meat on the environment! Everywhere you drive is cleared land and a 'vegetarian' meal in Toowoomba (forget about the word vegan) is "Tuna Mornay"
I did have a funny day there though that I have to share...not one that flatters my intellect at all....I went shopping in Woolies and after wandering an aisle in a nice dream I looked down and realised I was pushing someone else's trolley....that was NOT my handbag.....sh*t!!!..nice dream over......and I certainly did not intend to buy those chicken legs!! After shouting an unlady-like
farmer's curse in my panic, I quickly rolled this 'hot potato' trolley back to where I abandoned my own and walked away cool and calm, looking back to see a little lady hobbling back to the 'accidently stolen' trolley, not even noticing the drama of it disappearing!
I then smashed olive oil all through my shopping bag, went and waited by the wrong car, with my aunty watching me from the 'right' car no doubt thinking "What is up with these city girls??" Drove home the wrong way with my aunt still shaking her head...
And it was not until I got home that I realised I had forgotten the tofu, chick peas and soy milk...well I had not forgotten them...I had clearly put them in a trolley....and the little hobbling Toowoomba lady probably thinks she has Alzheimer's!!
Ok...drum roll....xXxXxXxXxxXxXxXxXda dat da dat da da..... |

NEW RECIPE FOR THE WEEK!!
So cheap and this will feed a family of 5 no probs!!
POTATO AND CHICK PEA CURRY
3 big fat organic potatoes
1 can organic chick peas 500gms
1 can chopped tomatoes 500 gms
2 teaspoons garam masala
1 teaspoon tumeric
1 teaspoon salt
4 fat cloves of garlic
1 med brown onion
olive oil
METHOD:
Chop potatoes into small cubes at set aside with chick peas drained
Bash up garlic and salt in morter and pestol.
Cut up onion as you like to see it in a curry
Spash olive oil in saucepan, fry onion, garlic, salt, garam masala and tumeric.
Throw in potatoes and chickpeas and cover in spices.
Pour in can of tomatoes and 4 cups of water
Put lid on saucepan and let it gently boil for 45 minutes...
It will turn into a thick gravy curried sauce and it is foolproof delicious!!
Serve with rice and or chapati.....
chapati is very easy too!!
CHAPATI BREAD
2 cups plain flour
1 cup wholemeal flour
1/4 cup olive oil
Boiling water
Mix flours together and pour in olive oil
Have boiling water on hand, keep adding slowly in little splashes and stirring with a wooden spoon until you make a "playdough" consistency...
knead in a bit of left over flour on flat surface.
Now in playdough form, break off a handful, roll it into a very flat circle with a rolling pin like a very thin pancake.
Heat up a flat frypan with a tiny bit of olive oil, throw in 'pancake' and move it around until it browns
Flip it and continue on other side...
CONGRATULATIONS...YOU HAVE MADE A CHAPATI!! FOLD IT UP AND THROW IT ON YOUR PLATE WITH THE CURRY..
.ENJOY!!
Have a great week...and don't tell too many people about my spaced out country day....I have a rep to protect!
