Green and Gorgeous Locks

VeganEra  All sorts of industries are doing their best to reduce their carbon footprint and are beginning to use natural and organic products wherever possible. The hair care industry is no different. Salons are popping up everywhere claiming to be eco-friendly and using organic products when possible. Hooray!
In the US there is even a hair recycling program which accepts hair clippings from salons and creates mesh hair mats with them to be used to soak up oil spills in the ocean.  Apparently our hair is fantastic for absorbing oil.  The non-profit organization is called Matter of Trust (www.matteroftrust.org).

Other than visiting an eco-friendly hair salon, you can also green up your bathroom with a range of natural, organic and vegan hair products.  These will not only be beneficial for your health (no more chemicals seeping in through the pores of your scalp) but will also mean less chemicals being washed down the drains.  So little Nemo and his friends will love you for it.  Note: just because it smells like flowers or fruit does not make it natural!  Fragrances are one potentially harmful addition that your head can do without.

Some ‘green’ labels to look out for include EcoColors, Aveda, MOP, Innersense and Tints of Nature.  A great site that is full of natural, organic, cruelty-free beauty and hair products is www.barenakedbeauty.com.au

If you want to check how safe the products you have at home are, just head over to this site: Cosmetics Database (www.cosmeticsdatabase.com) and enter the products or ingredients in to find out.

Making small changes here and there will benefit your health and the environment.  Be love – Be peace – Be vegan.
