Green & Gorgeous Your Skin At Home

VeganEra  HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF A BODY WRAP AT HOME.

Body wraps are great for cellulite elimination and detoxifying the body but can often cost a small fortune in a spa or salon. Other benefits of a body wrap include toning skin, alleviating muscle and join pain, aid in healing skin problems, treating acne and
helping to mobilize fat in the tissue so that it can be eliminated from the body naturally.

To give yourself a luxurious wrap at home you will need to allow some time (around 1 ½ hours) and a few key tools and ingredients.  These include a mixing bowl, heating pot and wrapping sheets (thin towels will work or about 10 elastic bandages from the chemist).  Some beauty therapists recommend using thin plastic such as glad wrap – it’s completely up to you and what you have available.  The ingredients you choose for your wrap depends on what you are trying to achieve.

A simple recipe includes 1 cup of clay, ¼ cup of sea salt, 2 tbsp olive oil and 2 cups of water.  There are different types of clay that you can find online or in some natural health stores, such as Handmade Naturals in Highgate Hill, Brisbane.    Green clay is great for oily skin and drawing out impurities, white clay is great for sensitive skin and is soothing, red clay is great for exfoliating and moisturizing the skin and bentonite clay aids in firming the skin.

Boil water and add sea salt until it is dissolved.  Add remaining ingredients and stir.  Adjust the water if necessary to form a wet paste.  You can then soak your wrapping sheets or spread the mixture over your entire body and then cover yourself in the wrapping sheets.  Then you can just lay in the bath reading a book or listening to music for an hour or so and, finally, rinse off!

A couple of tips for you: before you start dry brush your skin if you have a natural bristle body brush and then take a warm shower to open your pores.  Alternatively, use a body scrub in the shower; drink lots of water before, during and after your body wrap as you are detoxing the body; set up your bathroom before you start wrapping yourself up; start your wrapping from the bottom and work your way up; once you are all wrapped up you can cover yourself in a warm towel or blanket.

You can also add other ingredients to your wrap depending on what you have at home, such as aloe vera gel or cucumber puree(soothing and cooling),  essential oils, some apple cider vinegar or even some fine ground oatmeal.

If this all sounds like way too much effort, you could always purchase a mask to apply all over your body, soak in a tub filled with luscious bath oil or a box of Epsom salts or soak your pretty toes and give yourself a pedicure.

A store with nearly all vegan products that are natural, fresh and either have no packaging or recycled packaging is Lush (www.lush.com.au).  All of their products are hand made with as few preservatives as possible.  You have to keep the face masks in the fridge and use them up within 3 weeks – that’s fresh!

Happy pampering!  Be love – Be peace – Be VEGAN.
