Celebrities Do Their Part
VeganEra  Celebrities these days seem to be doing more than getting themselves on to Best/Worse Dressed lists, with many donating their time, money and even their bodies for a good cause. We only have to look at the recent disaster in Haiti to see how much celebrities are willing to give: Model Gisele Bundchen gave $1.5 million;
Sandra Bullock gave $1 million; Brangelina gave $1 million and Tiger Woods gave $3 million.
A telethon hosted by George Clooney and including stars such as Brad Pitt, Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Jon Stewart, Robert Pattinson and more, as well as musical performances from Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna and others raised $57 million!

Other stars prefer to DO something for a cause, such as the team of 12 who climbed Africa’s tallest peak, Mt Kilimanjaro, in January 2010 to raise money for the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Water For People’s Playpump Technology. This group included American actress Jessica Biel, Australian actress and environmental activist Isabel Lucas, rapper Lupe Fiasco and star of Into the Wild Emile Hirsch.

Some stars just offer their well-known presence for a cause such as ending animal cruelty. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have long been known for their risky animal awareness campaigns which have included high profile celebrities such as Pink, Alicia Silverstone, Pamela Anderson, Eva Mendes, Christy Turlington, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Campbell and Paul McCartney.

Recently, more celebrities are also spreading the message online with personal blogs and websites dedicated to their chosen cause. Pierce Brosnan has his own website (www.piercebrosnan.com) which highlights the environmental campaigns that he and his wife support. They also provide a list of the top 10 things we can do to be green.

Daryl Hannah, best known for a role alongside Tom Hanks in the 1984 movie Splash and more recently as the one-eyed assassin in Kill Bill, has devoted much of her life to sustainable, eco-friendly living. Her weekly video blog offers sustainable solutions and she really walks the walk – being a vegan, driving a biodiesel car and her home runs on solar power. She is now retiring from acting to focus on making this information more accessible to everyone through her website dhlovelife.com.

Alicia Silverstone’s thekindlife.com is designed to offer the public healthy living tips and a reciprocal forum that facilitates a greener journey, no matter what stage of the game you’re in. A passionate vegan, this website was launched last year in collaboration with her book The Kind Diet.

Another green celeb is Gisele Bundchen, a newly appointed UN Goodwill Ambassador, who is entrusted with the task of spreading awareness about the negative impact of climate change, as well as being particularly motivated to change the course of our planet through her blog giselebundchenblog.blogspot.com.

Leonardo Dicaprio is another green and gorgeous celebrity who launched the Leonardo Dicaprio Foundation 12 years ago to “support efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all of its inhabitants.” You can check out his interactive website about all things green at www.leonardodicaprio.org.

May we all do whatever we can to help save our planet and it’s beautiful inhabitants. Be love – Be peace – Be vegan; Save Our Home.
