G&G Feature: Christmas Gift Idea #5 - OXFAM Unwrapped Gifts
VeganEra  Another great, feel good gift this Christmas is an OXFAM Unwrapped Gift.
“The girls were all from the lowest Dalit caste, but their education had filled them with ambition, self worth and hope for the future. Every child deserves that kind of start in life – and Oxfam Unwrapped gifts like desks and chairs,
school equipment and even the school buildings themselves can provide this. And that’s why I am asking for us all to give these kinds of gifts this Christmas,” Scarlett Johansson on the impact of the Oxfam Unwrapped campaign which she supports along with Minnie Driver and Ricky Gervais in the US.

These gifts give you the opportunity to give something to a community in need while also giving a truly unique gift to your friends and family. When you buy a gift from the catalogue, your donation helps support the program which the gift represents. A card is then sent to your gift recipient explaining the benefits that this gift will bring someone in need.

My picks include:

Bucket hygiene kit $25 – These are essential in emergency situations. They keep water clean and reduce spillage and include bars of soap to help improve hygiene. Simple.

Cooking sets $39 – In emergency situations, it’s often very difficult to get food to affected areas. These kitchen sets, containing plates, cups, spoons and saucepans are provided by Oxfam along with non-perishable food to ensure families are able to cook meals such as maize and rice.

Fruit trees $35 – This gift includes 10 fruit trees such as guava, papaya and coconut to help provide communities with healthy food sources and a crop they can sell.

Mother & Baby $55 – This gift helps to train community members in rural Cambodia to teach mums-to-be how to take care of themselves during pregnancy and care for their newborn babies. Oxfam also assists the poorest women and families to access health centres and hospitals in times of need.

Safe refuge for women $25 – IN Papua New Guinea Oxfam support the health of women through the Nana Kundi Crisis Counselling Centre which offers counseling services and a safe place for women experience domestic violence.
