winning that advertising job - another person across the globe is worrying about keeping their child alive.
However, thanks to a new initiative by the National Geographic - research has revealed a startling statistc that all westernised countries need to be aware of.
A team of researchers in Washington State has found traces of cooking spices and flavorings in the waters of Puget Sound.The Puget Sound study is one of several ongoing efforts to investigate the unexpected ingredients that find their way into the global water supply.
Around the world, scientists are finding trace amounts of substances—from sugar and spice to heroine, rocket fuel, and birth control—that might be having unintended consequences for humans and wildlife alike.
However, it is not just in the United States scientists are concerned with the quality of water.
In Europe traces of illegal drugs are found in the water. When people partake in these harmful and deadly drugs, traces are stored in the body. When the body excretes this through the sewerage system the water becomes a toxic chemical mixture.
"These byproducts, or metabolites, are often not completely removed during the sewage-treatment process, at least in Europe," said Sara Castiglioni of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan, Italy.
