| Sugar: Not As Sweet As It Tastes |
 |
First of all: Sugar is everywhere
It's in plain sight in many foods, such as cereals, cakes, cookies and lollies. But it's also lurking under many different names in products that you might never suspect. Foods such as canned soup and spaghetti sauce can also be heavy on the sugar. One of the biggest culprits are Thai dishes (yes yes I know there are |
|
a lot of vegetables in a ‘Garlic and Basil Vegie Tofu Stirfry’ but the amount of sugar in the sauces at some of these places..did you not wonder why it can taste so good?!)
So what’s the problem with eating sugar? Well how much time do you have? Actually.. How much page space do I have?

How about just trying a ‘sugar free week’?
Note: This does not mean eating ‘sugar free’ chocolate bars and lollies, because just as nasty (if not more) are artificial sweeteners!
If you crave something sweet, have a piece of fruit. I know that sounds very cliché, but it sounds more appealing than brown rice right?
Yes that’s right, brown rice used to be regarded as a sweet food, This must have been before Mars Bars were invented…?
Once you are weaned off this white devil powder, reward yourself with something naturally sweet. Experiment with other natural sweeteners such as Black Strap Molasses, Agave or Stevia (a naturally sweet herb) all available from your local health food shop.
Some great recipes are available on the internet- search for vegan raw cheesecake and knock your socks off
Oh also remember, just because it’s in the health food shop doesn’t mean its good for you. Some of those Muesli bars have more sugar than those ‘chocolate flavoured sugar bars’
