Wise Old Edmond Bordeaux Szekely
Vegan Era  Edmond Bordy Sizzlekeyy who!?
Mr. Szekely (1905-1979) was a Hungarian philologist/linguist, philosopher, psychologist and natural living experimenter (sounds like a pretty smart guy), and for the sake of this article he will be known as ‘Ed’. Ed had his own health resort in North America where he improved the
health of many guests by teaching them the principles of scientific vegetarianism. Today, Ed’s health resort has expanded and is still being run by the Szekely family.

Over the years, Ed has written many books on health and conscious living. One I have stumbled across recently is: ’Scientific Vegetarianism’ – A guide to Organic Ecological Nutrition (written in 1977) In Scientific Vegetarianism, Ed outlines the certain substances ordinarily used by man that are rejected by his philosophy of ‘scientific vegetarianism’.

Ed’s Rejected Substances Flesh food, meat, fowl, fish, crustaceans Ed Says: these foods cause a serious imbalance in the biochemisty and the basic biological function of the organism (us) Fleshy foods introduce toxic substances into the organism, and cause intestinal fermentation and putrefacation by their decomposition in the intestines, greatly weakening the intestinal flora. Sounds nasty huh?

Ed also says that they are very uneconomic, as the raising of meats cause millions of acres to be unproductive. See- people already knew this back in the 70s!

Coffee and Black Tea Ed Says: Coffee and Black Tea deteriorate the nerves and heart through their caffeine and theine content and recommends drinks from roast cereals, figs and beans instead of coffee. And natural herb teas- mint, chamomile, alfalfa etc instead of black tea.

White sugar Ed says: white sugar contributes no mineral and vitamin value to the organism, only empty calories, and consequently leaches minerals and vitamins from the system. Instead choose black strap molasses, honey, pure maple syrup

White flour Ed says: white flour has all of its nutriment taken out of it, leaving only empty calories and an inferior starch without mineral or vitamin value. Instead- whole grains! (Duh) Chocolate Ed says: constipating, contains refined white sugar and empty calories Instead- dates, figs, raisins, carob or other dried fruits.

Alcohol Ed says: alcohol fermentation is one of our great enemies. It progressively attacks the nerves, the brain cells, contributing to high blood pressure and deteriorating mental activity and suggests natural fruit juices and vegetable juices instead (difficult to convince your mates to try this one yeah?)

Tobacco Ed says: Tobacco decreases the capacity of the lungs to absorb oxygen, thus lowering the quality of the blood, causing nervousness, heart afflictions and hindering mental work. Nowadays, we know more adverse affects of tobacco, however, Ed was very much ahead of his time in banning tobacco use as it was very much ‘in fashion’ when his book was written.

What does Ed recommend? Follow the middle path of moderation and naturalness in all things- particuarly in food.

Man and the universe live in the same radiating light. If man is to conform to the light of his universe he must then feed not upon the products of the laboratory and industry denatured by chemical science, but open agricultural products created by this universal light.
Everything hangs together: there is molecular relation between the life of man, the life of our universe, and the life of the vegetable kingdom, and lastly the triple radiations of moon and sun and earth.
